U.S. Business Delegation to the Middle Corridor

On September 4-11,  the America-Georgia Business Council (AGBC), The United States–Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC), and the American Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan (AmCham Kazakhstan) hosted a U.S. Business Delegation to the Middle Corridor Region. Supported by the U.S. Commercial Service, U.S. Department of Commerce, this was a first ever multi-country Business Delegation into the Middle Corridor region, visiting Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia as part of a coordinated mission. The US Embassy officials, including acting ambassadors in all three countries actively participated and supported the Business Delegation by hosting welcoming meetings and receptions.

The program schedule included high-level meetings with government officials, site visits to major logistics facilities including ports and free economic zones, and business-to-business exchanges with local partners. The delegation experienced multiple border crossings on ferry and land routes.

The delegation members visited Caspian ports in Aktau, Kuryk, Sarzha and Ersoy in Kazakhstan, and met Mangistau regional officials. Then delegation took a ferry to Azerbaijan’s Alat port near Baku,  and had multiple meetings with high level government officials - ministers of economy, transportation, chairman of the customs administration, as well a leadership of Azerbaijani railroad, Alat port, and Alat Free Economic Zone.

Then the delegation drove to Tbilisi, Georgia, where meetings took place with the leadership of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Georgian Railways, as well as representatives of the IFIs in Georgia. The delegation visited Tbilisi Dry Port, newly constructed Fedex distribution center and Tbilisi Free Zone. The special session with CEOs of APM Terminal Poti, Poti New Sea Port, and Batumi Port presented the Delegation participants with in-depth information about the functioning of ports - the key elements of the Middle Corridor, and business opportunities for logistical and transportation companies.  

Amcham Georgia and AGBC co-hosted a networking lunch with the members of the Amcham Georgia, allowing members of the business delegation to meet private company executives from wide range of industries.
